I know Top Gear did this, but I think they're wrong. Lotus is one I can't help but think of.

I still think Ford deserves top spot like the entire Top Gear viewing audience voted.

Esprit, Exige and Elise?
Lancia Still Wins.

Is this limited to production cars or are we including race cars too?

Nope. Top Gear was right.

Hard to argue against the 037

Evora, Elan, 2-Eleven, Eleven, and I think there are probably others too.

Except that that was just ONE car.

Production I think.

I like Chevrolet. Tri fives, 58-64 Impala, Chevelle, Camaro, Corvair, all of their trucks, the Small Block, Big Block, 409, Modern Gen IV engines, and of course the Corvette. Affordable performance for all.

The Evora and the 2-Eleven were great cars?
They were good cars, but not good enough to warrant best of all time status...

A RWD rally car that kicked AWD ass while looking good doing it.

Sorry, but it's got to be either Lancia or Alfa, even if /both/ are a mere shell of their former glory.

I can see that too, but on those grounds I really only think Lancia had two or three great cars.

Statos, Fulvia, 037, Delta.
They weren't just great however, they were the best.

Depending on your definition of "Great"...
...My vote, predictably, is Nissan (and even moreso if allowed to also include Datsun and Prince). Because fanboy (also, they made some pretty great cars)

I like your thinking.

While I'm not a huge fan, I think you would be hard pressed to not acknowledge GM and the iconic cars it has produced. I came up with these without even trying hard.

First thing that came to mind (though this is a very hard question), is Porsche, but maybe also TVR, and how can you not say Ferrari?
